The Gallery East
Cooperative began in December, 1998 as the
result of the dream of our originating founder
and current member
Doris Jones. Formerly known as 'Gallery on the
Square', we were
formed for education and charitable
purposes.
In January of 1999 we signed a lease at the
Shops of Silver Springs,
renamed Six Gun Plaza, in Ocala, Florida, and Gallery
East opened
on February 2, 1999.
Gallery East's mission is one of
encouraging fine arts by fostering
high quality work in technique and
presentation, and also to
promote and nurture artists by providing
exhibition space where
they can show and sell their work while
interacting with colleagues.
Also, Gallery East brings art
experiences to our community by
providing the public with a first class gallery
to view and enjoy
the work of local Florida artists.
The original dream for the Gallery soon
expanded to include art
education for adults and children. We currently
offer a variety of
fine art classes taught by our award winning
art instructors.
Individual member artists set prices for their
own fine art pieces,
and classes. Each Gallery East member is
responsible for the
display of their work, individual class schedules
if they teach,
as well as sharing in the manning of the
Gallery during regular
business hours.
Gallery East is open for viewing and
business, Monday through
Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Artist exhibitions
are
scheduled on a monthly basis and our reception
for guest artists
are held the second Friday of each month from
5:00 p.m. to
7:00 p.m.
Gallery East has successfully functioned
for the last seven
years as a non-profit cooperative organization,
governed by an
annually elected board of trustees who oversee
the functions of
the Gallery and our general membership. We are
primarily supported
by membership dues, sales, and also welcome tax
deductible fine art
sponsor
donations. |
